Hires/Promotions/Honors

Roswell Park Cancer Institute promoted Kara Eaton-Weaver to executive director of its Patient/Family Experience Department and named Harl Tolbert director of technology transfer and commercial development. Eaton-Weaver joined the institute in 2008, working first as a patient advocate, and became manager of patient relations in 2010. She has a bachelor’s degree from St. Bonaventure University and a master’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania at Slippery Rock. Tolbert most recently was associate director of biological sciences in the medical center’s Office of Technology Transfer at the University of Rochester. He earned a master’s degree from the University of Illinois.

Eveningside Vineyard in Cambria promoted Jason Mueller to cellar master. Shortly after starting at Eveningside four years ago, Mueller began his formal wine studies in Niagara-on-the Lake, Ont., and completed his studies in Toronto. He is now a certified sommelier.

Firehouse Subs recently opened a new location at 4405 Milestrip Road in Blasdell. The restaurant’s mural depicts firefighters from both Big Tree and Windom volunteer fire companies tailgating with the community outside Ralph Wilson Stadium. Maria and Mark Harris own this franchise.

Salvatore’s Grand Hotel on Transit Road used a technology partnership between Zeno Controls LLC and its subsidiary, Verve Living Systems, to reduce its utility bills. The hotel reduced its energy consumption using a system that allows heat to be reduced and lights to be turned off when a room is empty. Owner Russell Salvatore received a $48,987 rebate check from New York State Electric & Gas for the energy savings.
