After weeks of harried holiday shopping, the last thing many people want to do is head back to the mall. But savvy shoppers can pick up some great deals this month if they know what they’re looking for.

Everyone knows it’s best to buy your holiday gift wrap and greeting cards after Christmas, when holiday-themed merchandise sells for as much as 70 percent to 90 percent off.

But did you know you can find the same clearance deals on things you might not even associate with the holidays? The blog TotallyTarget.com found great deals on things like Scotch tape (60 cents!), scissors, bakeware, peppermint-scented hand soap and stocking stuffers such as baby toys and lip balm.

Here are some other things that go on sale in January that you might not expect, according to the experts at FatWallet.com.

Linens. Apparently, January white sales really are a thing. Bedding, sheets, pillowcases, towels, washcloths and other textiles will see discounts early this month, possibly even as much as 40 percent off entire categories of merchandise.

Tax software. Tax day is still four months away, but H&R Block, TaxAct and TurboTax will offer their best prices of the year on tax software this month.

Jewelry and perfume. Prices on these two items stay high throughout the Christmas season, drop for just a very brief period during the beginning of January, then spike again to take advantage of Valentine’s Day shoppers. The best deals on jewelry and perfume can be found the first two weeks of the month, with discounts of up to 50 percent off.

Video games. Because so many people got new game consoles for Christmas, such as the Xbox One and Playstation 4, prices will drop dramatically on video game titles that are compatible with the older-model gaming systems.

Winter gear. Prices will start to come down this month on coats, hats, gloves, boots and sweaters. Prices on these items will continue to drop through February and hit their lowest in March, but the best selection will be available in January.

Televisions. Everyone thinks of giant, flat screen HDTVs on Black Friday, but the best prices on TVs can be found closer to the Super Bowl. Several stores are expected to offer 50-inch to 60-inch HDTVs in the $500 to $600 range. While many TVs offered on Black Friday are basic models without many features, many of the TVs being promoted this month will be smart models, which add apps for services such as Netflix and Hulu, along with Internet capabilities.

Other electronics. Every year in early January, a huge, international electronics conference and trade show called CES unveils the retail market’s newest consumer electronics. After that happens, prices come down on old models of digital cameras, video cameras, computers and laptops.

Party supplies. Leftovers from New Year’s Eve sales can be used for Super Bowl parties. Stock up on snacks like chips and pretzels (they’ve got a long shelf life) as well as napkins and disposable cups.

Health and fitness supplies. Everyone is back on the wagon, trying to get healthy for the new year. You’ll find great prices on yoga pants and other workout gear, vitamins, supplements, diet foods and fitness equipment.
