First Niagara Financial Group named Rocco Diina and Stephen Pezzino top mortgage producers in units and dollars for the entire organization across its Northeast footprint during 2013. Diina joined the company in 2011 as a mortgage consultant after spending five years at M&T Bank as a mortgage banking officer. He is a graduate of Canisius College. Dr. Drucy S. Borowiz, University at Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences clinical professor in the department of pediatrics, received the Richard C. Talamo Distinguished Clinical Achievement Award, a national award for her groundbreaking research from the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Borowitz is chief of the pulmonology division at Women & Children’s Hospital of Buffalo and director of its cystic fibrosis center. The award recognizes individuals who have spent their careers caring for people with CF and whose contributions have significantly impacted the course of the disease.

John Marien, of Andreozzi Bluestein Weber Brown, was named to the Tax Notes 2013 Person of the Year list. Tax Analysts, the publisher of Tax Notes Today’s daily articles concerning tax news and analysis, compiles an annual list of the individuals who have significantly influenced federal tax policy during the past year. Marien, director of litigation support at the firm, was recognized for his role in achieving taxpayer-friendly results in significant Tax Court litigation.

PCB Piezotronics launched its new probe microphone for aerospace engineers that measures sound pressure in high temperature or small confined areas. The microphone is composed of four components: microphone, preamplifier, housing and several probe tips of different lengths. This new design now allows for sound pressure and resonance frequencies to be quantified for exhaust noise and engine analysis, via a noncontact sensor, on the aircraft.
