U.S. Gypsum investing $19 million in Genesee Co. plant

U.S. Gypsum Co. plans to invest $19 million in its paper mill operations in Genesee County, Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s office said Monday.

The company also plans to add 12 jobs to its current work force of 98 at the Oakfield plant, the governor’s office said. The plant produces paper used for the backside of wallboard.

U.S. Gypsum, a subsidiary of building products company USG Corp., qualified for up to $665,000 in performance-baed Excelsior Jobs Program tax credits and a $400,000 capital grant from the state in exchange for its investment and job-creation pledges. The company also received an $180,000 community development block grant from New York State Homes and Community Renewal and is applying for a grant from National Grid – potentially worth as much as $250,000 – to help improve its electrical infrastructure.
