State regulators will hold a hearing on the $45.2 billion merger between Time Warner Cable and Comcast on June 16 at the University at Buffalo’s Amherst campus.
The hearing, part of the state’s review to determine whether the merger is in the best interest of New York customers, will begin with an informational session at 6 p.m., followed by public comments at 7:30 p.m. The hearing, which will be conducted by the state Public Service Commission, will be held in the Student Union Theater, 106 Student Union, on UB’s Amherst campus.
The hearing is part of a review ordered last month by Gov. Andrew Cuomo to investigate how the merger will impact state policies and how it will affect pricing and competition. Time Warner Cable has roughly 2.6 million subscribers in New York, while Comcast has 23,000.
The merger, announced in February, also is being reviewed by federal regulators. The companies must receive the state’s approval, federal approval and approval in the other states where they operate.
