An Allentown hot sauce-maker is opening a bar and restaurant in Black Rock.
Valerie Meli, owner of HeadStone Heat hot sauce, and her partner Glen Plato will open Hot Mama’s Canteen in the former location of Hilliker’s Pastime.
Hot Mama’s Canteen will hold its soft opening Saturday. The roughly 6,000-square-foot building houses a bar and a large, separate dining area. The menu will feature homestyle comfort food, burgers, grilled sandwiches, vegetarian items, hand cut French fries and sweet potato fries as well as Mama Bombs – softball-sized Italian arancini.
The building, at 12 Military Road at Amherst Street, will also house the hot sauce company’s headquarters. HeadStone Heat is sold at several locations around Buffalo, including KegWorks, Rohall’s Corner and Globe Market.
