A package of 11 local gas stations, mostly independently branded, are going on the auction block early next month, as the family of a deceased local businessman disposes of the last remnants of his fuel empire.
The stations, primarily operating as Stop & Gas, are located in Buffalo and the Southtowns, including several in Hamburg and West Seneca, as well as Machias and Eden. The Eden store is not currently operating.
Many of the stations also include convenience stores under the S&G Express name, while two also have Subway sandwich franchises and one has a laundromat. Besides the Stop & Gas brand, one is the Stadium Mobil station near Ralph Wilson Stadium in Orchard Park, while another is a Sunoco station on Big Tree Road in Hamburg.
All 11 were owned by Sado Gas Sales Inc., whose owner, Robert Saxon, died several years ago. His brother, Kevin, continued to operate them, selling off just a half-dozen so far, but is now unloading the rest of them in a third round of sales, said auctioneer Cash Cunningham.
Saxon will retain only one location, in Niagara Falls.
“The intent is to liquidate everything,” Cunningham said. “There are some pretty good stations there. They held onto all of the good ones for as long as they could. These are pretty much the best of what they had.”
The stations will be sold at a public auction by Cunningham at 11 a.m. June 3 at the Hampton Inn & Suites, 133 Buell Road, Cheektowaga, across from the Buffalo Niagara International Airport.
Cunningham noted that “it’s difficult to get a bank loan on anything that’s petroleum-related these days,” so the sellers have agreed to finance the transaction in order to get the deal done.
“It presents an exceptional opportunity for someone to get into the business without the hassle of bank financing,” he said.
“This will wrap up the bulk of the estate.”
